Introduction
 Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) also known as -
 Chronic obstructive airway disease (COAD)
 Chronic obstructive lungs disease (COLD)
 Chronic obstructive respiratory disease (CORD)
 Chronic airflow limitation (CAL)
 Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) includes chronic
bronchitis and emphysema.
 COPD refers to pulmonary hypertension pulmonary insufficiency
and Cor pulmonale.

Definition
 COPD is a chronic, progressive, irreversible and obstructive
disorder of the lungs that causes airflow obstruction.
 Emphysema and chronic bronchitis are the most common disorders
that cause COPD.

 Bronchial hyper responsiveness
 Occupational dust and chemicals
 Nutrition and infections
 Occupational exposure
 Genetics
