Definition
Pulmonary embolism is a thrombotic disorder in which blockage
the pulmonary artery by thrombus, air emboli, fat or tumor, that
cause the prevent blood flow to the lungs.
Pulmonary embolism is an emergency life-threatening respiratory
disorder.
Commonly pulmonary embolism occurs due to deep vein
thrombosis and pelvic vein thrombosis.
Pulmonary embolism is an occlusion of pulmonary artery by
blood clots.
Causes
Deep vein thrombosis
Thrombus formation ( major sauce of clot formation )
Air embolism
Fat emboli
Tumor and swelling
Blood clot.
Risk Factors
Virchow's triad - circulatory stasis, endothelial injury or
hypercoagulable state.
Major surgery and trauma.
